Surprising Partnership: Dog Food Company and Michelin-Recognized Pizzeria Create “Pup Pizza”

In an unexpected partnership, a premium dog food company has teamed up with a Michelin-recognized pizza restaurant to create the first-ever pizza designed specifically for dogs.
LOS ANGELES, CA, August 24, 2025 —JustFoodForDogs, the veterinarian-recommended fresh dog food company, has partnered with award-winning pizza restaurant Pizzana to create what they’re calling the “original fresh pizza for dogs.” The aptly named “Pup Pizza” launches with perfect timing tomorrow on National Dog Day, August 25th, at Pizzana locations across Southern California and Texas.
A Dog-Safe Take on Classic Pizza
The 3.5-inch Pup Pizza isn’t just a gimmick – it’s been carefully crafted with canine nutrition in mind. The collaboration involved JustFoodForDogs’ in-house nutrition team reviewing every ingredient to ensure the pizza was not only safe for dogs but actually nutritious.
Instead of traditional pizza components, the Pup Pizza features creative, dog-friendly substitutions:
- A simple dough made from just flour and water
- Pumpkin and peanut butter sauce blend replacing tomato sauce
- Potato cubes standing in for cheese
- JustFoodForDogs’ single-ingredient pork treats as a pepperoni alternative
“Pizza night is a beloved family ritual, and as we look for new ways to make mealtime more exciting for dogs, we knew we wanted to create a healthy way for pups to join in,” explained Natalie Lykins, brand partnerships manager at JustFoodForDogs.
From Concept to Canine Approval
The partnership brings together JustFoodForDogs’ science-backed approach to pet nutrition with Pizzana’s commitment to quality ingredients and Neapolitan tradition. Founded by Candace Nelson (who also co-founded Sprinkles Cupcakes), Pizzana has earned recognition including a Michelin Bib Gourmand Award and multiple appearances on the Los Angeles Times’ 101 Best Restaurants list.
“We believe great food brings people together, and now we can invite our pets into the experience too,” Nelson said. “The Pup Pizza combines our love of Neapolitan tradition with JustFoodForDogs’ nutritional expertise.”
The companies tested their creation at an exclusive preview event at Pizzana’s Sherman Oaks, CA location on August 23, where canine diners gave their barks of approval.
Availability and Pricing
Pet parents can order Pup Pizza at all Pizzana locations in Southern California and Texas starting tomorrow for $8 plus local taxes. The special menu item represents a growing trend of restaurants and food brands creating pet-inclusive dining experiences.
For JustFoodForDogs, founded in 2010 as a pioneer in the fresh pet food movement, the collaboration aligns with their mission of improving dogs’ quality of life through better nutrition. The company operates retail locations and sells through various retailers, offering everything from daily meals to treats and supplements.
