NEW YORK, Oct. 24, 2024 – Just nine days after its release, “Cats of the World” has found its perch among 2024’s notable new book releases, landing at #12 on the New York Times Bestseller List for Hardcover Nonfiction. This achievement adds another milestone for the book authored and photographed by Hannah Shaw and Andrew Marttila, the husband-and-wife duo known respectively as “Kitten Lady” and “The Cat Photographer.”
The achievement comes as Shaw and Marttila just completed a whirlwind week-long book tour, hitting seven cities across the United States. “What a whirlwind week!” Marttila shared on social media. “We couldn’t be more appreciative to everyone who showed up for our book tour or shared about our book online. It has been surreal to see the project we’ve been working on for years in everyone’s hands.”

Published by Plume, the 320-page hardcover book has captured readers’ attention with its unique blend of cultural exploration and feline photography. The work chronicles the authors’ journey across five continents, visiting 100 cities from Agra to Zanzibar, documenting the universal bond between humans and cats through hundreds of candid photographs and engaging stories.
“We are truly grateful for the outpouring of love for Cats of the World,” Shaw posted. “These beautiful stories deserve to be told, and it means everything to us that the book is connecting with so many hearts.”
Early acclaim for the book, including Pawzhub.com’s rating of 4.5 out of 5 paws (Outstanding), praised its “stunning photography” and “engaging, charming, and informative prose.” Its appearance on the New York Times Bestseller list confirms the book’s widespread appeal.
For Shaw, this marks her second appearance on the prestigious list, following “Tiny But Mighty,” her guide to kitten rescue. While Marttila’s previous works, including “Shop Cats of New York” and “Cats on Catnip“, have garnered significant acclaim, this is his first New York Times Bestseller achievement.
For those who haven’t yet picked up a copy, “Cats of the World” is available at all major booksellers with a list price of $32.00. The official book website, www.catsofthe.world, offers additional content including behind-the-scenes photos and stories from the authors’ global expedition.
