DEAR TABBY | Content in my own fur. No costumes required!
Dear Tabby,
I am a proud and independent cat who has found herself in quite a peculiar predicament. I am reaching out to you for some much-needed advice.
Tabby, let me start by saying that I adore my human family. They provide me love, comfort, and all the treats a cat could dream of. However, one particular event fills me with dread and humiliation each year: Halloween.
You see, Tabby, my humans believe it is amusing to dress me up in elaborate costumes during this frightful holiday. I must say, I despise it. When they bring out those silly hats, capes, and ridiculous outfits, I feel my dignity slip away like a mouse in the night.
While my humans find joy in seeing me transform into a miniature pumpkin, a fierce pirate, or even a witch, I find myself longing to be free of these absurd garments. I am a proud feline, Tabby, and I believe my natural beauty should be celebrated, not disguised behind the façade of a Halloween costume.
I’ve tried every feline tactic in the book to communicate my disdain, from hiding under the bed to expressing my displeasure through hisses and swats. But alas, my humans seem impervious to my protests. How can I make them understand that I am perfectly content in my own fur and wish to forgo these annual costume charades?
Tabby, I turn to you for guidance. You have a way with words and a knack for understanding the complex dynamics between humans and their pets. Is there a way I can convey my desires to my humans without hurting their feelings or causing a rift in our otherwise loving relationship? I yearn for a Halloween filled with dignity and respect.
Thank you, Tabby, for lending an ear to my feline woes. Your wisdom and insight would truly mean the world to me, as I search for a way to gracefully decline these unwanted Halloween transformations.
With a purr of anticipation,
Content in My Own Fur in Cleveland
Dear Content in My Own Fur,
I understand your frustration, dear feline friend. While humans often find joy in dressing their pets in Halloween costumes, it is crucial for them to respect our individuality and preferences. After all, a cat’s dignity is a precious thing that should never be compromised.
My advice to you is to communicate your feelings to your humans in a gentle and persistent manner. Cats can capture attention with their silent stares and expressive body language. Choose a moment when your humans are relaxed and receptive, and show them through your actions that the costumes make you uncomfortable.
Additionally, you may try finding alternative ways to participate in the Halloween festivities. Perhaps your humans can involve you in other aspects of the holiday, such as providing special treats or setting up a cozy hideaway where you can observe the festivities from a distance. By redirecting their attention, you may find a compromise that respects your boundaries.
Remember, Content, communication is key in any relationship. Your humans love you and want to make you happy, even if their approach may be misguided at times. By expressing your desires in a gentle, yet persistent manner, you may be able to find a solution that honors your regal nature while still allowing your humans to enjoy the Halloween spirit.
I wish you a Halloween filled with comfort and contentment.
Purrs and understanding,
Tabby

I can relate. I’ve never cared much for custumes.
My cats agree and disagree. Buddy prefers his own fur. Putting on a Halloween Costume was not his thing. One reason though was because it just didn’t fit.
Frankie though enjoys the costumes. The message from him is finding the right one. He prefers the t shirts instead of things around his neck!
