Morris the Cat Throws His Collar into 2024 Presidential Race and Seeks Running Mate

LAKEVILLE, Minn., August 14, 2024 – In an unexpected twist in the contentious and tumultuous 2024 presidential election, Morris, the iconic 9Lives spokescat, has announced his fourth bid for the presidency of the United States. The feline candidate, known for his discerning palate and advocacy for pet adoption, is running on a platform of “paws-itivity” and animal welfare.

“Meows the time for pawww-sitivity! I believe everyone has the right to pros-purrrrrr. Good Home, good health, good food,” says candidate Morris.

This isn’t Morris’s first foray into politics. The orange tabby previously ran for president in 1988, 1992, and 2012. However, his campaign team believes that the current political climate might just give Morris the edge he needs. And even if this fourth bid doesn’t succeed, the feline candidate still has five of his nine political lives remaining – plenty of opportunities to claw his way to the top of the political scratching post.

“Since becoming the 9Lives spokescat in 1968, my true purrrrr-pose in life has been to promote cat adoption and make it easier for humans to give cats a comfortable life with plenty of tasty, nutritious food,” Morris stated in a press release. “I was a shelter cat myself before my rise to stardom. As President, I won’t quit until every cat out there is living The Good Life!”

Morris’s campaign is centered around five key “paw-licies”:

  1. Right to Prospurr: Ensuring every pet has a good home, good health, and good food.
  2. Be Paw-sitive: Promoting harmony between all animals, even cats and dogs.
  3. Domestic Paw-licy: Keeping the “CAT” in DOMESTI-CAT-ED through strategic cat naps.
  4. Declawing Ridiculous Cat Laws: Removing restrictions on feline freedoms.
  5. The Right Catitude: Fostering a world of “purrrr-fect” harmony for all pets.

In a unique campaign strategy, Morris is actively seeking a running mate that doesn’t have to be a cat. Any cat or dog who shares Morris’s vision for “The Good Life” is invited to apply through the campaign website, www.MorrisforPresident.com.

The winning running mate will receive a $1,000 prize and the opportunity to select an animal shelter to receive a $35,000 donation from 9Lives – equivalent to approximately half a million 9Lives meals. Internet celebrity Doug the Pug has been tapped as Morris’s Campaign Manager to assist in the VP search.

Morris’s campaign comes at a time of heightened tension in the political sphere, particularly regarding pet lovers. Recent controversial comments from a certain presidential running mate that disparaged “childless cat ladies” have sparked significant backlash. Morris’s campaign team has not directly addressed these remarks, but his inclusive approach to both cats and dogs in the VP search could be seen as a strategic move to show respect for all and appeal to a broad base of voters.

As a long-standing advocate for animal welfare, Morris’s candidacy shines a spotlight on the importance of pet adoption and responsible pet ownership. His status as a rescue cat turned celebrity spokesperson adds credibility to his campaign promises.

While some may view Morris’s candidacy as a marketing stunt, it undeniably brings attention to important issues in animal welfare.

As the election heats up, it remains to be seen whether voters will respond to Morris’s message of “paws-itivity” in these politically divided times.
