Spooky Paws for a Good Cause: Trupanion’s Halloween Pet Photo Contest Spotlights Pet Adoptions

SEATTLE, Sept. 25, 2024 – This October, pet insurance provider Trupanion is unleashing a Halloween event that’s both fun and purposeful. The “Tricked Out for Treats Pet-tacular,” launching October 1, isn’t just an online pet costume photo contest—it’s a celebration of pets that aims to make a tangible difference in animal welfare.

“At Trupanion, we’re committed to helping pets live healthier, happier lives — and having some good ol’ fashioned fun along the way!” Margi Tooth, CEO & President of Trupanion, explained. This philosophy shines through in the contest’s design, which encourages pet owners to showcase their creativity while also highlighting adoptable animals.

“We’re looking forward to celebrating the fun, laughter, and love our pets bring into our lives each and every day with this campaign,” added Tooth. “It will be wonderful to share these joyful moments with the world and we are so excited for the opportunity to connect pets available for adoption with their forever homes.”

The ‘Tricked Out for Treats Pet-tacular’ invites pet owners to showcase their animals striking a pose in their Halloween attire. Whether you have a Terri-fido, Franken-feline, Ninja Purr-tle, Bark Vader, Purr-incess Leia, Mummy’s Boy, Droolacula, Doc Pawsome, Purr-amedic, or a Bone Ranger, Trupanion’s contest welcomes all creative canines and costumed cats.

The photo contest features a place for every pet to shine with the array of categories for pet parents, veterinary practices, and shelter/rescue organizations:

  • Solo Stunners: Individual pets ready for their close-up
  • Squad Goals: Two or more pets in coordinated outfits
  • Senior Sweeties: Pets over seven years old sporting their finest
  • Pick of the Litter: Pets under one year old serving looks
  • Kitty Corner: A category exclusively for feline fashionistas
  • Clinic Charmers: Office mascots and veterinary staff members’ pets
  • Me & My Human: Best coordinated pets and their people
  • Adorably Adoptable: Shelter and rescue pets looking for forever homes

Participants chosen as the top entry in each category have a chance to win a custom pet portrait, pet-tacular swag, global spotlight opportunities, and ultimate bragging rights.

Participating is free and easy. Starting October 1, proud pet parents can submit a photo of their pet in costume on the Trupanion Tricked Out for Treats Pet-tacular website, tag their chosen category, and share on social media to gather votes. “The earlier you submit your photo, the more time you’ll have to earn votes!” Trupanion advises. The site for submissions is at: trickedout.trupanion.com

For shelters and rescues, the “Adorably Adoptable” category offers a unique opportunity. This category is exclusively reserved for shelter and rescue personnel to showcase adoptable pets. These entries will receive special treatment on Trupanion’s showcase page and be featured with posts to Trupanion’s social media accounts. Visitors to the Trupanion’s contest showcase page can browse available pets by location to find their perfect match. Shelters are encouraged to pre-register for the campaign via email at shelterlove@trupanion.com before October 1.

The shelter with the top entry will receive featured exposure promoting awareness for their organization, potentially resulting in some extra surprise treats.

Detailed rules for the campaign are available at: trickedout.trupanion.com/terms-and-conditions.

The contest will culminate with an online virtual celebration on October 30, featuring select “picks of the patch.” While prizes and bragging rights are enticing, Trupanion emphasizes that the real win is in the event’s impact on pet adoption.

“Whether they’re spooky, sweet or somewhere in between, we’re excited to see the creative costumes pet parents come up with,” said Tooth. “But more importantly, we hope this event will inspire people to consider adopting a furry friend of their own.”

Prioritizing pet safety, Trupanion has released a veterinarian-approved guide for worry-free pet costumes. Key tips include ensuring proper fit, avoiding obstructions to ears, mouth, or eyes, and being mindful of potential choking hazards.

As the “Tricked Out for Treats Pet-tacular” approaches, it’s clear that Trupanion has created more than just a contest. It’s a platform for creativity, a spotlight for adoptable pets, and a celebration of the human-animal bond. Thanks to Trupanion, this Halloween, some lucky shelter pets might just find their treat is a new forever home.
